Department of Economic Growth and Structural Changes in the Economy

History: The Department of Economic Growth and Structural Changes in the Economy was created in 1997 with the aim to study the structural processes in the national economy and the national structural policy during the formation of the current economic model. Its first Head was Doctor of Economics, Professor, Corresponding Member of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Boris Yevhenovych Kvasnyuk (1938–2008), the founder of the scientific school of institutional macro analysis of the national economy.

Fields of Research: - macroeconomic problems of the policy of economic growth;
- the cyclicity of economic development;
- global economic imbalances and structural changes in the economy;
- causes and consequences of structural constraints in the development of leading industries and segments of the national economy;
- competitiveness of the national economy;
- capital accumulation and economic dynamics;
- transformation of the structure of the real sector;
- strategy of the formation of national structural, industrial and investment policy.

Results Obtained: In 2015 the Department organized the round table on "Which strategy of structural changes would create proper conditions for Ukraine’s economic development?" (30.10.2015) and was a co-organizer of the meeting of the Bankers’ Club on “Regulators and regulation: efficiency of the reforms in the financial sector “ (01.12.2015), held at the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of NAS of Ukraine with the participation of international experts, scientists, representatives of public authorities, businesses and NGOs.
Four of the Department’s researchers have undergone a retraining abroad:
– T.Tyschuk (2013) at EcoMod Modelling School, Brussels, Belgium (a course of «Practical General Equilibrium Modeling with GAMS»);
– L.Shynkaruk (2015-2016) at the High School of Informatics and Arts (Wy?sza Szko?a Informatyki i Umiej?tno?ci) (Faculty of Informatics and Arts), Lodz, Poland (a course of «Postgraduate Education on «Manager of European Projects in the Financial Perspective of 2014-2020»);
– I.Bobukh, Ya.Romusik (2015) at the Foundation «Central European Academy of Studies and Certification» (CEASC) and the High School of Informatics and Arts, Lodz, Poland (a course of «Modern University: a Project Based Approach to the Work Organization as per the Provisions of the European Qualification Framework»).
