On October 23–24, the online part of the 57th scientific Convention of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) on the topic "Memory" took place.
Researchers of the Department of Economic History of the Institute of Economics and Forecasting presented results of a fundamental research project "Economic Heritage in the Formation of Ukraine's Economic System" at their Roundtable "The Influence of Soviet Heritage on the Development of the Ukrainian Economy". They engaged in a structured dialogue exploring what Ukraine has inherited from its Soviet past, how it manifests in our current reality, and how we can navigate these challenges moving forward.
The topic gathered interested scholars, which contributed to a dynamic discussion. The interactions with attendees were not only productive but also deeply insightful. In the discussion and Q&A sections, the presenters delved into pressing issues facing agriculture today, explored the complexities of brain drain caused by war, and examined the industrial development of occupied areas, and more. Attendees also stressed the political issues tied to global turbulence.
The Chair of this Roundtable was its initiator and moderator, Oleksandra Kurbet.
The event was also attended by department employees - Tetiana Slyvka, Tetiana Bodnarchuk, Nazar Gorin, Lesia Didkivska
For reference:
- ASEEES Conventions have been held since 1964. Currently, Conventions are presented in two separate formats – online and in-person in the USA. This platform brings together over 2,800 scholars and practitioners of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies from around the world. During the event, over 600 sessions and events of various formats are held: round tables, panels, individual papers sessions, book presentations and discussions, film screenings, meetings of thematic public organisations and communities, and more.
- This is the second time that the Institute has been represented at the ASEEES Convention. In 2024, Oleksandra Kurbet, with co-author Oksana Telenko, participated in it, presenting a paper titled "Postcolonial Perspective on the Development of Rule of Law in Post-Soviet States: a Case Study of Ukraine and EU's Role".
