The European Cossack Duel Championship which brought together over 1,200 participants from 16 countries around the world, recently ended in Italy (May 9–12, 2025, Bellaria-Igea-Marina). The Ukrainian national team (140 athletes) took first place in the team competition, winning 95 gold, 88 silver, and 75 bronze medals.

A researcher at the Department of Economic History of the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, PhD in Economics Oleksandr Korniyaka has been actively developing and popularizing the Cossack duel, a sport officially recognized in Ukraine since 2001. In 2012, he became the founder and vice-president of the International Organization "World Federation of Cossack Duel", and in 2013 – that of its official representative - the Ukrainian Sports Federation "Cossack Duel". Oleksandr Korniyaka is an international-class master of sports and an international referee.

The scientist says this about his volunteer activities: "One of the main tasks of the Federation is not just the popularization of our national traditions in Ukraine and the world, but also the development of a healthy nation, healthy youth, which is the key to the socio-economic development of our country in this extremely difficult period for the whole world."
