The research paper describes various macroeconomic aspects of transport development and analyzes and forecasts the macroeconomic trends and risks of transport development in Ukraine. There is an assessment of the challenges facing the transport system, namely, achieving adequate competitiveness and efficiency, introducing energy saving and energy efficiency in the decarbonizing world, and developing multimodal and intelligent transport systems. The issue of access to resources for the development of the transport system (financial and human ones) is revealed, and the opportunities of Ukraine’s industry for updating the fixed capital in the transport sector are assessed. The internal priorities of transport development in such sectors as railway transport, road transport and water transport are considered. The external priorities of transport development are characterized, namely the liberalization policy and Europeanization in the context of the EU’s new infrastructure policy and the requirements of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
