The theoretical and methodological principles of ensuring the stability of the state finances of Ukraine in the long-term perspective have been studied. The economic meaning of long-term sustainability of state finances is defined; the factors of stability of state finances are summarized; trends in the transformation of the economic functions of the state and the financing of the social sphere are clarified, taking into account the challenges for the sustainability of state finances (for example, health care and education). The authors identify the ways to ensure the sustainability of local budgets in the long term; the key directions for improving the budget and tax policy are substantiated.
