On June 15–17, 2026, the XXX International Seminar of Agricultural Economists (XXX Międzynarodowe Warsztaty Ekonomistów Rolnych) was held in Krasnobród (Lublin Voivodeship, Poland), organized by the Institute of Rural Development and Agriculture of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWIR PAN).
The event was attended by scientists from the Department of Economic History of the State Organisation "Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" – PhD in Economics, Senior Researcher Lesya Didkivska and PhD in Economics, Senior Researcher Tetyana Slivka, who presented the results obtained in the research project "Economic Heritage in the Formation of the Economic System of Ukraine" (0122U201468).
Lesya Didkivska delivered a speech on "Long-term Effects of the Totalitarian Legacy on Ukrainian Villages", which highlighted the historical prerequisites and modern manifestations of the influence of the totalitarian past on the socio-economic development of Ukraine’s rural areas.
Tetyana Slivka presented a paper on "Ownership Concentration and Agricultural Corporatism: The Path Dependence Effect", dedicated to the analysis of impact of the concentration of land and corporate assets on agrarian development through the prism of the concept of the trajectory of previous development.
The speeches emphasized the importance of considering historical experience in Ukraine's European integration and in the context of the prospects for adapting this country’s agrarian policy to modern EU approaches to the development of rural areas.
The seminar was attended by over 40 scientists from different countries, representing academic institutions in Poland and Ukraine. Participants discussed the most important challenges facing agriculture and rural areas, such as:
- sustainable food systems and agricultural resilience
- the consequences of war for rural Ukraine and agriculture
- energy efficiency and the green transition
- digitalization of agri-food markets
- risk management and support for young farmers.
