Scientists of the State Organization "Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" participated on May 27, 2026, a large-scale International Scientific and Practical Conference entitled "The Current Crisis of the International System" in online format. The event brought together leading Ukrainian and international scholars, diplomats, members of parliament, and analysts to examine the destruction of the global order and explore new points of stability.
The conference was co-organized by:
- the Italian Institute for the Future (Naples),
- the State Organization "Institute of World History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine",
- the State Organisation "Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine".
The conference program covered five key areas:
- the collapse of the liberal order,
- the "Trump factor" in global security,
- the future of the European Union,
- China’s global role,
- and the blurring boundaries between war and peace in the world economy.
The discussion was moderated by Professor Olena Borzenko (State Organization "Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine") and Associate Professor Serhii Tolstov (State Organization "Institute of World History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine").
Opening remarks were delivered by the heads of the organizing institutions: Dr. Roberto Paura, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Andrii Kudriachenko, and Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Serhii Korablin.
During the conference, more than 40 presentations were delivered by participants from Ukraine, Italy, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Lithuania. The discussions focused on four main thematic blocks in which scientists from the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine took an active part:
- Global Trends and Geofinance: Speakers (S. Korablin, O. Sharov, O. Borzenko) analyzed the processes of deglobalization, the global debt crisis, and waves of geofinancial uncertainty.
- Diplomacy and Security: Ambassador of Ukraine to Tunisia and Libya V. Khomanets presented the North African perspective on the crisis, Professor O. Tsvietkov explored the emerging balance of power, and Deputy Director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies Ya. Zhalilo outlined the formation of new centers of influence.
- International Context and Digitalization: International experts, including M. Makhmutova from Kazakhstan, focused on the development of the Middle Corridor, the roles of China and the EU in Central Asia, and issues of digital sovereignty under hybrid threats.
The conference confirmed that, despite the war, Ukrainian science remains integrated into the global academic space and continues to offer constructive solutions for the future security architecture.
Following the conference, a collection of scientific papers with practical recommendations for minimizing the consequences of the systemic global crisis will be published.
