On May 26, 2026, a roundtable meeting on "Rethinking Economic Heritage: The Role of Open Science" was held at the State Organization "Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine".
Its co-organizers were:
- State Organization "Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine"
- Institute for Demography and Life Quality Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
- State Higher Educational Institution "University of Educational Management of National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine"
- The Institute of Higher Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine
- National University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy
The purpose of the round table:
- revealing the potential of the concept of open science for the development of historical and economic research, in particular, the objectification of history, overcoming stereotypes of historical memory and historical narratives of totalitarianism
- identifying the possibilities of synergy between science and education in the consolidation of Ukrainian society based on the rethinking of economic heritage
- promoting the principles of open citizen science as an important component of Ukraine's European integration, and a means of increasing the social effectiveness of scientific activity and strengthening public trust in science
The idea for the event emerged from an attempt to synthesize:
- the results of research conducted at the Institute for Economics and Forecasting on economic heritage as the basis and prerequisites for the current state and further development of the Ukrainian economy in all its components (institutional, structural and sectoral, spatial and territorial, technological and innovative, organizational and managerial ones, etc.)
- the results of research conducted at the University of Educational Management and the Institute of Higher Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine on the implementation of the principles and tools of open science in the scientific and educational process
The moderator of the meeting was the Head of the Department of Economic History of the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Economics Viktoriya Nebrat.
The monograph "Decolonization. Essays from Ukraine" (publishing house "Komora", 2026) was presented at the event, which can already be found in bookstores or on the publishing house’s website. One of the authors was Senior Researcher at the Department of Economic History of the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine, PhD in Economics Nazar Gorin.
