On December 11, 2025, a round table discussion entitled "Commercialization of Scientific Developments of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" was held at the State Institution "Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine". The event was dedicated to a topical issue that requires joint discussion and the development of solutions relevant to many research institutions.
Participants in the round table included representatives of:
- leading research institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
- central and regional executive authorities;
- enterprises, business associations, small and medium-sized businesses;
- international and Ukrainian experts.
The purpose of the event was to develop a shared vision of how scientific developments can meet the strategic needs of the state, the requirements of budget programs, and the expectations of international donors and investors, as well as to contribute to technological modernization, the reconstruction of critical infrastructure, and the enhancement of Ukraine’s competitiveness.
More than 160 participants registered for the event, 104 of whom joined online.
Welcoming the participants, Director of the State Institution "Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine", Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Valeriy Heyets, noted that the implementation of the idea of introducing effective mechanisms for integrating academic research into the market environment began in 2023. At that time, Director of the O.V. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Serhii Komisarenko, approached the Institute for Economics and Forecasting to conduct an economic justification of the Institute of Biochemistry’s scientific developments. The successful implementation of this initiative led to the preparation and realization of a large-scale multidisciplinary research project that united promising scientific developments of the institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and created a foundation for securing investment support to launch these critically important developments into production.
This unique interdisciplinary project establishes methodological foundations for the commercialization of scientific developments through their feasibility studies and the formation of business models aimed at attracting funding sources for industrial-scale implementation.
The moderator of the event was Vitalii Venger, Doctor of Economics, Chief Research Fellow and Head of the Department of Trade and Industrial Policy of the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine.
During the round table, the following developments were presented:
- hemostatic agents Carbogemostate, Fibrin Gel, and Collagen Matrix (developed by the O.V. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry of the NAS of Ukraine);
- a modular plant to improve the efficiency of a biogas power plant (developed by the Institute of Gas of the NAS of Ukraine);
- a project for modernizing a workshop for the production of ingots and castings from high-strength aluminum alloys (developed by the Physico-Technological Institute of Metals and Alloys of the NAS of Ukraine).
For all three projects, Doctor of Economics, Leading Researcher of the Department of Trade and Industrial Policy of the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine, Oksana Kushnirenko, presented the developed business models for commercialization. The economic justification for their commercialization was presented by Senior Researchers of the Department of Public Finance of the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine: Doctor of Economics Olena Stepanova (for the first and third projects) and PhD in Economics Nataliia Nazukova (for the second project).
The results of the assessment of macroeconomic and multiplier effects for the national economy arising from the commercialization of the presented scientific developments, as well as forecast calculations regarding the impact of their implementation on economic growth, the development of related industries, and the strengthening of the knowledge-intensive segment of Ukraine’s industry, were presented by Doctor of Economics, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, Chief Research Fellow and Head of the Department of Modeling and Forecasting of Economic Development, Mariia Skrypnychenko.
The round table brought together a wide range of key stakeholders, including representatives of the scientific community, business, government authorities, the media, and active civil society.
Based on the discussion, a resolution will be prepared containing proposals from the participants aimed at implementing updated mechanisms and tools to promote the commercialization of scientific and technological developments of the institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
